Who are Virtual Voices?
We are a collaboration of singers from the Waltham St Lawrence church choir, Chorate Chamber Choir, Waltham Madrigals and other singing friends, directed by Simon Shaw with organist Camilla Jarnot.
We were formed in April 2020 soon after the start of lockdown in the UK. Our purpose was to keep singing in the absence of normal choir activity, and to produce music for the online services from WSL church.
To do this, we record our parts individually at home to specially-created backing tracks, either from a PC or played by Camilla, and then mix the recordings together.
A Choir in Lockdown
VV have produced two compilations of anthems and other music, mostly recorded for WSL Online Church Services between April 2020 and July 2021...
together with other material done for our own entertainment - and, we hope, yours!
In view of the impact of the pandemic on musicians and on churches, the proceeds from these albums are split equally between WSL Parish Chruch and the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
Our Albums
"Their Sound Is Gone Out" |
"Praise the Lord O Jerusalem!"
|
Our first album contains a widely varied selection of sacred music, including Rheinberger's Requiem in Eb (Op 84) to commemorate all those who have lost their lives (or their loved ones) to Covid-19. Its themes cover Contemplation, Commemoration, and Renewal - as we emerged from lockdown. |
Our second collection has seasonal music from Harvest, through Remembrance, to Advent and Christmas. Also Byrd's Mass for Five Voices - by the master composer of Elizabethan times. VV especially enjoyed collaborating with Chorate Chamber Choir for the Christmas items which were included in their successful 2020 online Christmas Charity Concert "No Zoom at the Inn" - as well as in the WSL Carol Service. |
